The UFC might not be an advocate of tournament style of fighting however Bellator seems to have used it for good.

With their ongoing heavyweight tournament causing waves in the MMA community and producing better cards, Bellator has now reportedly announced a second Bellator grand prix tournament in the welterweight division.

The news was first reported by LATimes as a promotion official told them that an eight-man welterweight tournament will kick off on September 29 at SAP Center in San Jose, California.

Contrary to the report, Bellator President Scott Coker told MMAjunkie that, “no fighters have been invited to participate yet.”

Reportedly the contestants likely to participate include Bellator welterweight superstar Paul Daley (40-16-2 MMA, 6-3 BMMA), prospect Michael ‘Venum’ Page (40-16-2 MMA, 6-3 BMMA) and former champs Douglas Lima (29-7 MMA, 11-3 BMMA) and Andrey Koreshkov (20-2 MMA, 11-2 BMMA).

On the same card, current Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald will move up a weight class to face Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi in a super fight before joining the tournament likely in 2019, The Times reported.

Also slated for the card is a fourth fight between former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson and longtime rival Wanderlei Silva.
