Ben Askren is used to creating sensation with his interview or social media posts. This time the former One FC welterweight champion has again created a lot of sensation via a recent tweet. The wrestling wizard has claimed on Twitter that he could easily beat both the the Diaz brothers in a single night with relative ease.
Askren who has a MMA record of 18-0-1, is one of the best MMA welterweights of all time. He is a NCAA division 1 wrestler and also a former freestyle Olympic wrestler and competed for the U.S.A in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His Olympic dream was broken by a loss against Cuba’s Ivan Fundora. After Olympics, he soon transitioned into MMA in 2009. He became the Bellator champion by defeating Lyman Good and went on to defend his title four times. His Bellator contract ran out while he was still the champion and Askren decided against signing an extension.
‘Funky’ was widely expected to sign a deal with the UFC. However, negotiations soon turned sour due to Askren’s feud with the UFC president, Dana White. Askren instead ended up joining the Asian One FC and soon became the promotion’s welterweight champion as well. He then went on to defend his One FC title three times before retiring. The former Bellator champion last fought and defeated the Japanese submission wizard, Shinya Aoki and defeated him in the first round via TKO due to punches.
Askren was asked by a fan on Twitter about how he’d fare in fights against the highly infamous, Diaz brothers. The fan also stated that he believes that Askren would be a heavy favourite to win both the fights. “Funky” replied with a tweet claiming that he could easily defeat both Nick and Nate in consecutive fight on the same night, that too with much ease.
Here’s what Askren tweeted:
Ben Askren is surely a phenomenal MMA fighter with other-worldly wrestling skills. He also might be true in his believes that he could defeat the Diaz brothers. However, defeating both Nick and Nate on the same night would be practically almost an impossible task even for someone as good as Askren.
