UFC: Brian Ortega doesn’t have time for haters that still bring up 2014 failed drug test

UFC 222 co-headliner Brian ‘T-City’ Ortega is an extremely likeable and stand up guy from the looks of it. But it isn’t like he’s not made mistakes in the past.

In fact, Ortega failed a drug test in 2014 and had the result of his victory over Mike De La Torre in his UFC debut overturned to a no contest.

To his credit, Ortega spoke up and owned his mistake in ingesting a steroid named drostanolone, something which he claimed he only did to aid in his weight cut.

Since then, however, he has tested clean in every USADA administered test and has amassed a 5 fight win streak in the UFC, leading him to the cusp of a Title shot.

But for those people that still bring up his failed test in 2014, Ortega had this to tell MMA Junkie.

’ll let people hate on me for whatever reason. For me it was something, I admitted – or, I publicly talked about it and said, ‘Yes, I did take something.’

I’ve never took nothing else like injectables or anything like that. It was an oral thing to make you cut weight. It’s almost Hydroxycut in a way.

Or like fen-phen – remember that? I took that in order to help my weight cut, which every fighter hates weight-cutting. But I never excused no matter what it is that I took.

I took full responsibility for what is it, what I did, and I did my punishment. I paid my time, and I continue with my life as anyone else does.

Ortega stepped up to fight Frankie Edgar in around 4 weeks notice to ‘save’ the UFC 222 card, since the scheduled bout between UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar had to be scrapped due to injury to the former.

The fight has been advertised as a ‘Title Eliminator’, meaning that the winner is a shoo-in for a Title shot next.
