UFC 232 is shaping up to be a great card. After B.J. Penn, another legend might join the party as a welterweight barn between former interim champ Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit (30-12 MMA, 7-8 UFC) and #11 ranked lightweight Michael ‘Maverick’ Chiesa (14-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) is discussed for UFC 232 on December 29.
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the callout was first issued by Chiesa after deciding to move up to welterweight. Chiesa took the decision of moving up after missing weight and a lackluster loss against former champ Anthony Pettis back in July, where he thought he was going to die, due to weight cutting complications.
“Michael Chiesa has decided to move up to welterweight. Chiesa’s manager Danny Rubenstein confirmed the decision after it was first reported by KHQ Local News. Chiesa, who missed weight prior to his last fight in July, is hoping to debut in his new weight class at UFC 232 on Dec 29. According to Chiesa’s team, Carlos Condit has been discussed as a potential opponent, however Condit’s management told ESPN they are not interested in that fight. Condit is hoping to return to action in December, they added.” – Ariel Helwani
Condit however verbally accepted the fight even though his management team wasn’t interested. He took to Twitter to reveal that he was ‘In in’. (via Twitter):
In in 💀 @UFC @seanshelby @MikeMav22 see you in December big guy https://t.co/5fA3DNGSb3

If BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor is to be believed, shortly after Condit’s tweet, a fight between Chiesa and Condit is being discussed. (via Twitter):
As per Condit’s tweet earlier today, I’ve confirmed with multiple sources that a welterweight fight between @CarlosCondit and @MikeMav22 is in the works for #UFC232 on December 29 in Las Vegas. https://t.co/bdTWmq3NZm

Both these veterans desperately need a victory to get back on winning ways. Condit is on a four-fight losing streak and is 2-7 in his last 9 fights after a recent loss to Alex Oliveira at Fight Night Glendale in April.
Chiesa on the other hand had a troubled year in all aspects of the game. Since his return from injury in June last year, the ‘Maverick’ lost a controversial submission to former interim title challenger Kevin Lee. He was slated to face Pettis at UFC 223 in April. However got injured in the infamous chaotic bus scene caused by McGregor. Chiesa later dropped a submission defeat to Pettis after the bout was rescheduled for UFC 226.
