Regarding the eagerly anticipated bout between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, UFC CEO Dana White is promising fans a definitive response “in the next couple weeks.”
In an interview with Jim Rome, the UFC chief gave an update on the bout, which is now the biggest source of annoyance for fans.
“We’ll see how this things plays out over the next couple weeks,” White said. “If we can’t get this fight done, we’ll move on quickly.
“We’ll have the answers in the next couple weeks.”

Jones is regarded as one of the best fighters in MMA history and was the previous light heavyweight champion of the UFC. After years of waiting, he eventually advanced to heavyweight in 2023 and defeated Ciryl Gane to take the vacant title. Regretfully, Jones hasn’t done much as heavyweight champion. Since taking the title, he has only engaged in one fight, defeating a worn-out Stipe Miocic via TKO last autumn.
In order to keep the division going, the UFC had to appoint an interim champion due to Jones’ inactivity. In 2023, Aspinall of the UFC won that title by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich. Since then, he has been demanding an opportunity to share the heavyweight belt with Jones. He hasn’t had any luck yet. Jones has actually been adamantly opposed to the notion that Aspinall used last year’s knockout of Curtis Blaydes to defend his temporary belt.
Some fans have speculated that Aspinall is scared of the bout because of how long he has been calling to fight Jones without success.
Dana White claims that’s not true.
He informed Rome, “Jon Jones has never shunned a challenger or been scared to take on anyone.”
Fans are growing weary of waiting for answers in one form or another. We were promised closure weeks ago, after all.
