It’s part of MMA folklore that Chael Sonnen has terrible accuracy ratio when it comes to picking winners in fights. However, the former UFC Middleweight contender has a very keen mind when it comes to how the business functions.
And his next prediction?
That Georges St-Pierre will fight Conor McGregor for the 165-pound UFC Title.
And he’s saying this despite the former UFC Welterweight and Middleweight Champion stating clearly on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Hour show that he is not interested in a money fight with Conor McGregor and is only bothered about ‘legacy fights’.
Speaking in his podcast, Beyond the Fight, Sonnen had this to say about the matter:
Conor doesn’t have the belt, and George wants to come back, and George only wants to come back for Conor. And they both want to do this legacy and all this other … a check, guys.
That’s what you’re getting in this. Forget about how we think about you in the future, let’s talk about tonight. That’s the fight
I know that George would do it. He’s made that clear.
And I also know contrary to what some fans will say about, ‘Well, what wait class? You can only ask Conor to go up so much. George will go down.
Now that it has come out that Conor talked to Dana and wanted to do a 165-pound fight, George will go down to 165. I’ll speak for him. I’ll tell you he for sure will.
I’m not speaking for him; he shared that with me. But I will pass it on to you. He will go to 165 if it means Conor
Sonnen made it clear that George St-Pierre will take the fight against Conor McGregor for the UFC 165 pound Title, if the division gets created of course.
However, it’s hard to argue against the assertion that the fight – should it come to fruition – stands a good chance of going down as the biggest ever UFC pay-per-view of all time.
Do you want to see that fight?
