UFC : Why coach Duke Roufus wants to see Ben Askren in UFC

625 0

Coach Duke Roufus has been a long time supporter of Ben Askren joining the UFC. Despite the fact that the undefeated wrestler is practically retired,  he says he’d love to see it happen. A prominent reason for this lies in the financial upside of being with the UFC. While speaking to MMA Junkie Radio, Roufus said that while he means no disrespect to Bellator, he knows that there are more “zeroes” in the UFC.

That being said it isn’t the case that he is unaware of the roadblocks that lay in Askeren’s entry to the UFC. The last time Askeren tried to negotiate a deal with the UFC, the negotiations became so dirty that he had to move away with a “bad taste in his mouth”, following which he moved to One Championship in Asia.

While signing an undefeated fighter wouldn’t be much of a problem for any organisation, his wrestling heavy style does create an issue with people who are looking for blood baths.

And if fighting alone wouldn’t suffice, Roufus feels that Askren could bring something else to the table with his entertainment value. He feels that Ben is cheeky, funny, intelligent and a ‘ball buster’.
