UFC: Conor McGregor’s coach Owen Roddy is unsure if the Irishman will retire after UFC 229

Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor has become a global superstar and an international celebrity. Thus, he has somewhat outgrown the UFC itself. This has led to McGregor being extremely selective and has been cherry picking big money fights that are guaranteed to make him even more rich than he already is. Thus, due to a lack of big money fights currently in the UFC, there is a speculation that whatever the result of his fight for the title at UFC 229 maybe, McGregor might walk off into the sunset and hang up his gloves. However, his striking coach Owen Roddy does not believe that “Mystic Mac” will retire.

The Irishman will challenge the UFC lightweight champion Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov for his belt at UFC 229, in what is being touted as the biggest fight the sport has ever witnessed. McGregor and Nurmagomedov have plenty of bad blood between them and have a genuine animosity for each other.

McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy recently appeared on the latest episode of Eurobash. He revealed that he does not believe McGregor will retire and will rather look for other big-money super-fights. Here’s what he had to say:

I don’t know…I don’t think [he will retire], I don’t look into the future to see what’s happening. Conor’s mentality hasn’t changed at all, so I don’t know. I always say, it depends on what fights are available, I think, for Conor. As I said, if there is another big super fight and Conor feels like he would enjoy it, then he’ll do it. If the fans want it and stuff like that, I think Conor will take it.

You never know, who knows? We’re just going to focus on the task at hand now. This is potentially the biggest fight ever. We’ll go in and do that and then he’ll probably be on to the next biggest fight ever.
