Cris Cyborg is defending her UFC Featherweight Championship against UFC debutant and former Invicta bantamweight champion Yana Kunitskaya in this weekend’s UFC 222 headliner.
However, she did take some time off from her preparation to chat with TMZ about a potential fight against Floyd Mayweather in MMA.
When asked what would happen if Floyd fought her in the Octagon, since both of them are comfortable at 145 pounds, Cyborg had this to say.
You know, I’m going to try my grappling with him. The first thing I’m going to try is a double leg [takedown].
It’s going to be great.
When the reporter pressed on in the same vein, talking about how it isn’t really crazy for her to fight Floyd because she likely already trains with men, Cyborg elaborated more on how she envisions the fight going.
I know. I think when fighting Mayweather, [dealing with] his boxing is a little crazy. but in MMA, I’ll try take him down. I’m not going to challenge my boxing with his boxing.
You know, when I train with guys, I learn a lot because they’re stronger and faster than me. And some guys have a lot of techniques they can teach me and improve my game.
For sure I’ll need to improve my game if this [fight against Mayweather] will happen.
I’ll need to slip my head a lot. And I have to be fast if I want to catch him.
Cyborg is widely recognized as the greatest female fighter in the world today. She is undefeated in her career spanning over a decade.
