UFC: Cub Swanson reveals why he re-signed with the UFC

Veteran UFC featherweight and fan-favourite fighter Cub Swanson had finished up his previous deal with the company after his fight with Brain Ortega at UFC Fight Night 123. His UFC future was in the air and many fans and pundits alike believed that he will not be re-signing with the UFC and will venture on to other promotions for a better financial deal. However, Swanson did re-sign with the UFC and later fought Frankie Edgar. In a recent interview, Swanson has revealed that his decision to re-sign with the UFC was due to fair USADA testing in the promotion.

Swanson revealed on MMA Fighting’s, The MMA Hour that the UFC met his financial demands and even though he did receive higher offers from other promotions, he did not want to to compete against fighters on PED’s (due to lack of drug testing in other promotions). Here’s what he said:

I feel like when it was all said and done, we were able to see eye-to-eye [financially], It was more than they were initially offering me. I did get some huge offers, but the companies weren’t as stable and things like that, and it was really making me really think hard. But one of the biggest things is, I’m all for USADA.

I spent a long time fighting for the company without the major drug testing, and I feel like I wasn’t a big fan of that, so I just was thinking in my head, ‘Do I really want to be fighting guys who I know are just cheating?’ And I’m not one to do that, so I was happy to sign back with the UFC and be in a clean sport.
