In the latest episode of UFC Unfiltered, Dana White revealed that a potential fight between Luke Rockhold and Alexander Gustaffson is in the works for UFC 227.
UFC 227, which is set to take place on August 4, 2018, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, already has a Bantamweight title showdown between TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt in place. The addition of Gustaffson vs. Rockhold will be a huge addition to the card and apart from this fight, White revealed that they are also looking to get Georges St. Pierre and Nate Diaz on the card.
“In my perfect world, if everything goes perfect, and nothing ever goes perfectly in this world, [it will be] Dillashaw vs Garbrandt, GSP vs Diaz would be the co-main, Gustafsson vs Rockhold and Brunson vs Antonio Carlos Jr. It’s very interesting,” he said. (via MMA Mania)
Rockhold is coming off a defeat against Yoel Romero at UFC 221 and is currently 16-4 in his career. Prior to his fight with Romero, Rockhold had a victory over David Branch as well. The loss against Romero, however, made Rockhold move from the Middleweight division. As for Gustaffson, he is on a two-fight winning streak with wins over Glover Teixeira and Jan Blachowicz.
The other fights
While the Derek Brunson vs. Antonio Carlos Jr. fight is official, the other fights mentioned by Dana White are yet to take off. Nate Diaz has expressed his desire to return to the cage in August while Georges St. Pierre is yet to react to the rumors.
The Gustaffson vs. Rockhold fight also is yet to be confirmed officially. Nevertheless, the rematch between Dillashaw and Garbrandt is expected to headline the show even if UFC decides to stack up the undercard with huge names like Diaz and GSP.
