In the main-event of UFC 226, Daniel Cormier secured his legacy as he shocked the world by brutally knockung-out Stipe Miocic in the very first round. Cormier who is now the “champ champ” later revealed in the post-event press conference that he was trying to figure out ‘Stone Cold’ Stipe’s speed and timing. He also further stated that after eating a few shots from the heavyweight king he realised that Miocic did hit hard but not exceptionally hard.
Once DC discovered that Stipe’s punches weren’t too hard, he started looking to finish him. Here’s what he had to say:
I was seeing how he hit and seeing how fast he was and everything. He took me down and he was trying to hit me when I got back up. It all hurts, Stipe is a big, strong guy, he’s a great champion, but it wasn’t anything abnormal. I was like, ‘He hits hard, but not abnormally hard’. When I figured that out and I got a little bit of his timing, I figured that it wouldn’t be one punch that kind of slept me.
