Earlier this month at UFC 226, light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier defeated Stipe Miocic to become the heavyweight champion making him the fifth fighter to hold belts in two different weight classes.
The next assignment for Daniel Cormier was supposed to be that of the former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar keeping the light heavyweight division on hold.
With #1 ranked contender Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson injured, Cormier has received callouts from the likes of Ilir Latifi, Anthony Smith and Corey Anderson with other fighters like Anthony Smith, Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa asking him to defend or vacate. Cormier finally decided to break the silence and clear some air.
“When and where, Corey Anderson,” Cormier told his FOX broadcast partner Michael Bisping on the video. “When and where, (Ilir) Latifi. When and where, Anthony Smith. When and where, all of them. All of them at some point this year.”
Cormier is absolutely positive of defending his strap once as long as it does not affect the timeline of his fight against Lesnar.
“Yes, I am,” said Cormier, who plans on retiring on his 40th birthday next March. “As long as they don’t f*ck up my Lesnar fight.”
