Derrick Lewis was put on the main card of UFC 229 which might turn out to be biggest selling PPV in the history of UFC and Lewis shocked the whole world, as he went on to knock out Alexander Volkov with six seconds remaining on the clock.
Derrick Lewis came into this fight with two back-to-back massive wins over Marcin Tybura and Francis Ngannou. Although he was behind on scorecards, the knockout changed everything.
He is also one of the most talked about fighter after last Saturday’s fight, he gained over 500k Instagram followers after his post-fight octagon interview with Joe Rogan.
He recently gave an interview to TMZ where he gave his thoughts on UFC 229 main event fighters and says he doesn’t agree with Khabib Nurmagomedov getting a suspension.
“No,” Lewis responded when asked by TMZ if the Dagestani should be suspended for his actions. “He really didn’t do anything. He didn’t do nothing, he just jumped in the stands. He didn’t really hit that guy, that guy really started hitting him.”
As for McGregor, the next best move that Lewis sees would be retirement.
“Sh-t, there ain’t nothing he can really do or prove anymore. He made more money than I would ever make in this sport so he probably should just sit his ass down, too.”
“I would,” Lewis said when asked if McGregor should indeed hang it up for good. “He made life-changing money. He really don’t have to fight.”
”I’m fighting just so I can take care of my family. I don’t fight just because I love it just that much. I’m fighting because it’s a job for me.”
Derrick Lewis is scheduled to headline UFC 230 card at the Madison Square Garden in New York against Daniel Cormier.
