UFC Des Moines Results: Daniel Rodriguez stops Santiago Ponzinibbio (Video)

All of tonight’s UFC Des Moines results, including the welterweight matchup between Daniel Rodriguez and Santiago Ponzinibbio, are covered by us.

Ponzinibbio (30-9 MMA) will be making his first appearance since defeating Carlston Harris via TKO in Las Vegas last January. The “Argentine Dagger,” who had previously lost to Kevin Holland and Muslim Salikhov in Octagon, ended a losing streak with the victory.

Daniel Rodriguez (19-5 MMA) defeated Alex Morono via split decision in October of last year, which was his most recent action. That win ended “D-Rod’s” three-fight losing streak; he had previously lost to Kevlin Gastelum, Ian Machado Garry, and Neil Magny.

Daniel Rodriguez starts off the first round of this welterweight bout with a hard jab. He then kicks low after that. In retaliation, Santiago Ponzinibbio kicks his own leg. Tonight, “D-Rod” appears to be much larger than “Ponz.” With low kicks and jabs, both men seem content to stand and attack early. The “Argentine Dager” delivered a forceful low kick from within. Rodriguez stabbed him in the body. Ponzinibbio went for another low kick. He tries to kick his body, but it is blocked. Daniel Rodriguez keeps throwing blows to the body. Another excellent inside low kick from Santiago Ponzinibbio. In reply, “D-Rod” with a left hook. “Ponz” with a good kick to the body. Rodriguez attempts to lunge, but “Ponz” stays out of the fray. Santiago Ponzinibbio fails with an overhand right. He tries to aim for a takedown, but it doesn’t happen. He stumbles and tries to kick. As he stands back up, Daniel Rodriguez leaps on him with a left hook. The Argentine seemed rocked by that. “D-Rod” with an excellent 1-2. Ponzinibbio is presently retreating. Rodriguez’s right hook is terrific. Round one concludes with the sound of the horn.

Daniel Rodriguez opens the second round of this welterweight bout with a jab and a low kick. A pleasant right to the body belongs to Santiago Ponzinibbio. “D-Rod” to the left of the middle. With a straight right, “Ponz.” Rodriguez uses a body shot in response. The Argentine delivered a low kick after a right hook. Daniel hits a terrific 1-2 in return. A nice blast down the center from Santiago. Rodriguez responds with a 1-2 after eating it. He seems so self-assured right now. The warriors are still exchanging little combos. When Santiago Ponzinibbio tries to take him down, “D-Rod” easily defeats him. “Ponz” makes another attempt, but it is once more defended. On the break, Ponzinibbio had a terrific 1-2. Once more, he attempts to shoot in, but the American blocks the shot. Now, “D-Rod” is breathing a little laboredly. Santiago is now exerting a lot of pressure as if sensing it. He’s having trouble finding the range, but he’s swinging powerful shots. Another attempt at a takedown, and this time “Ponz” succeeds. Round two concludes with the sound of the horn.

Santiago Ponzinibbio enters the ring with a 1-2 before delivering a low kick to start the third and final round of this welterweight fight. Here, Daniel Rodriguez certainly seems to be slowing down. His counter-right hook is decent, but “Ponz” breaks him with a low kick. Santiago falls with a powerful left hook. This one is over. Whoa!
