Dustin Poirier will fight Justin Gaethje in a high profile lightweight contest this weekend. While he is busy with his preparations for the fight, Dustin took some time out to talk about a variety of topics including the case of Conor McGregor and the title win of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

According to the 29-year-old Conor McGregor should be first in line to receive a title shot if the Irishman decides to return to the cage.
“He is the champion. They’re taking his belt for inactivity. When he comes back, if he decides to [come back], I think he should get the first shot at it. He didn’t lose the belt. It’s one thing when we talk about rematches and stuff but if the guy wants to go off and do some other stuff, but the guy hasn’t been beat in the UFC at 155 pounds. Of course I don’t want it to happen but I think it would be the right thing to happen. Of course I want to get my shot at the title but I think that would be the fair thing to do.” He said. Khabib Nurmagomedov as a questionable champion
While the situation of McGregor is still up in the air, the face of the UFC Lightweight division changed when Khabib Nurmagomedov won the title this past week by defeating Al Iaquinta. However, Dustin feels that it was a questionable win for the Russian.
“He is the champion; he has the belt. But I don’t feel that was a championship fight. Nothing against either guy. Khabib was on the way and earned himself the spot to get that title shot. But that fight, to me, didn’t feel like a title fight.” He added while talking to MMA Junkie.
Currently 22-5 in his career, Dustin will be heading into the fight this weekend on top of a win he picked up against former Champion Anthony Pettis back at UFC Fight Night 120.
