In an ideal world with three consecutive finishes of former world champions in Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez should cement you a title shot. However that would be in an ideal world, which it isn’t.

With UFC superstar, former featherweight and lightweight champion ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor making his much anticipated debut, he has expectedly got the nod over an unfortunate Dustin Poirier. Poirier is now scheduled to fight another UFC superstar, Nate Diaz at UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden in November.

However in a recent interview, another double champ, Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre showed interest in fighting the winner of Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov. Poirier however believes he is next in line for the title.

“Nah, it’s not happening,” Poirier told Luke Thomas on Monday’s episode of the MMA Hour. “Look, after I beat Nate Diaz, I’m fighting for the belt. Or I’m fighting GSP, but he’s not going to get [a title shot] before I do.”

“When I beat Nate Diaz and it’s my turn to fight for that belt, when I win that belt, when history looks back at all of this, nobody can ever say I didn’t earn anything,” Poirier said.
