UFC: Eddie Alvarez calls out Nate Diaz, says if he wants to come back, “I’m right here”

UFC Lightweight division is definitely heating up. The division finally has a champion which has given the fighters some sort of clarity about their future. However, when you’re talking about the most stacked division of the UFC, there is a problem of many.

The ever so stagnated division is progressing at a faster rate. Long time contender in Khabib Nurmagomedov is the champion, ranked contenders in Dustin Poirier and Kevin Lee are climbing up and prospects like James Vick are cracking their spots in Top 10.

To keep up with the pace, former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (29-5 (1) MMA, 4-2 (1) UFC) is searching for an opponent as well. Alvarez would definitely like to get his title back and hence he wasted no time in calling out the champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. According to him, Nurmagomedov shouldn’t call himself a champion after beating a #11 ranked contender in Al Iaquinta. However, according to reports, Nurmagomedov is already going through negotiations to face former UFC lightweight champion and arch rival Conor McGregor and if this fight does not materialize, Dustin ‘the Diamond’ Poirier will get a shit at the title. Alvarez has therefore shifted his attention towards the Stockton product Nate Diaz.

Alvarez reveals an old beef he had with Diaz when Alvarez fought Nate’s teammate Gilbert Melendez at UFC 188.

“We almost fought each other in Mexico, I was fighting his friend Gilbert Melendez,” Alvarez told ESNews. “I beat Gilbert and Nate was angry about it. And so me and Nate almost got into it in Mexico. For sure I’d like to get that match out.”

Alvarez is now using this angle to set up a fight with Diaz.

“You know Nate always talks about keeping it real,” Alvarez said. “Well keeping it real I beat his friend up right in front of him while he sat cage side and he still didn’t do sh-t about it. So if he ever wants to come back, I’m right here! (Nate) can come get this!”
