Eddie Alvarez continued his verbal attack on Khabib Nurmagomedov this week. The former Lightweight champion appeared on the MMA Hour last Monday and as always, he had some strong opinions about the current Lightweight champion.

Khabib won the Lightweight championship at UFC 223 when he defeated Al Iaquinta via a unanimous decision. Earlier, Alvarez had spoken about how Khabib defeated an opponent out of the top-10 to get the title.
And now, Alvarez took open shots at UFC’s business plans with Khabib.
“You know what no one’s talking about? Khabib talked about fake champions, fake belts., fake this, fake that, and everything is fake, fake, fake. No one said that they were just begging to give him that belt because they had Russia behind him. Russia is going to be an open market soon, and it’s convenient Khabib has the belt,” he said. They should’ve just handed it to him
As mentioned earlier, Alvarez had questioned the credibility of Khabib as a champion and he reiterated this fact.
“Now the guy who says ‘fake champion, fake belt, fake this,’ he has title now. They should have just handed it to him, the be honest with you. That’s what it looks like,” he concluded.
Alvarez, who is coming off a win against Justin Gaethje, has been pushing his case for being the first challenger during Khabib’s reign. He has an impressive resume to showcase as well with a professional record of 29-5 and wins over big names like Rafael Dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis, Michael Chandler among others.
Khabib, meanwhile, is yet to taste defeat in his professional career and holds an impressive record of 26-0 to his name. Prior to his win against Al Iaquinta, he had dominated Edson Barboza and Michael Johnson as well. Considering how Conor McGregor is tangled in legal trouble and since Tony Ferguson is dealing with an injury, Alvarez is indeed one of the front-runners to get the first crack at Khabib.
