Almost everyone has stated their views on Conor McGregor’s potential title challenge against Khabib Nurmagomedov. While some people do feel that it will be unfair if McGregor receives an immediate title shot on his return, former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez disagrees. Alvarez feels McGregor’s return and title challenge will in fact be good for the MMA world.
In a recent interview with BJ Penn.com, Alvarez stated that McGregor getting a title shot will just show how the UFC functions. He compared McGregor’s potential title shot to that of Brock Lesnar’s against Daniel Cormier. Here’s what he had to say:
Nope, that is the world we live in today, folks. We are all fools if we think otherwise. Brock Lesnar just walked in here and got a world title shot. This is what’s happening. We have no control – the media, myself, the fighters, no one. There is complete control. The UFC says who gets the next title shot. I have no control of that; I beat the guys in front of me. I could dominate everyone. Doesn’t matter. The money fight is what’s always going to count.
It would be a sin for him to be locked up in his prime years, so I’m happy for him, it’s good for the MMA world.
