With the biggest win of his fighting career now and three wins in a row, Smith is definitely a lot closer to contesting for the light heavyweight title belt next year. He’s a worthy opponent and proved why he should not be counted out against the heavy favorites. Smith’s game plan worked – Weather the early two rounds and look for an opening or error from Volkan, capitalize it into a submission or a KO. But it was not easy for him as he had to take a lot of leg kicks in the process and also had to give up two rounds in favour of Volkan. His strategy might have worked today, but if he plans to go toe to toe with the top 3 light heavyweights, then he has to bring more to the game.
