Enrique Barzola defeated Bobby Moffett via Split Decision

UFC Fight Night 156 Shevchenko vs. Carmouche 2 - Play by Play Updates & LIVE Results -

Enrique Barzola stepped into Octagon with the intention to get back to his winning ways after he snapped his four fight win streak earlier this year. The former TUF: Latin America 2 lightweight tournament winner, Enrique had to deal with the initial aggressive approach from Moffett as he landed some nasty leg kicks. Enrique was patient enough to weather the storm before he landed his own combinations. As the fight progressed, both the fighters continued their high pace strikin, but it was Enrique who’s punches did the damage. With the fight moving into the final round it seems as if the pace slowed down and neither of the fighters committing to push themselves and rather being selective in their output. But a last minute take down from Enrique sealed the fate of the fight.

Being a multi-time BJJ champion Vieira had no difficulty taking the Piechota to the ground before he could submit him with an arm triangle choke at 4:26 secs of the second round. Volkan Oezdemir finally ended his three fight losing skid in a sensational KO win over Ilir Latifi. Both the light heavyweights wasted no time in laying hands on each other and exchanged some heavy strikes from the moment the fight kicked off. Ilir was clear with his strategy to take Volkan to the ground and he did by slamming Volkan to the mat from the clinch position. But it didn’t take Volkan much to get back to his feet and effectively mixed his offensive with punches, kicks and knees as the first round came to close. Volkan continued his offensive in the second round as continued to pressure the Swede and forced him to retreat. A huge stepping knee dropped Ilir to the ground, but the Sledgehammer got right back up displaying his toughness. Moments later Volkan scored another knockdown but this time followed up with a heavy left hook that ended the fight at 4:31 secs of second round.

Both flyweights landed some heavy shots early in round two but a slick combination from Bandenay stunned Garagorri. The combination Bandenay landed, opened up a cut on the left eyebrow of Garagorri. Both the welter weights exchanged heavy strikes over the three rounds with neither of them settling for anything less. A solid knee from Luque rocked Perry and smashing his nose in the process. Luque was being the more technical while Perry began throwing wild haymakers hoping to connect and drop Luque. Perry showcased remarkable patience in the fight, something we began witnessing from his previous fight. But being too relaxed caused him the fight as he resorted to a takedown in the final round and got countered with a guillotine choke that saw pool of blood pouring from his face, but Perry kept on fighting until he got the top position. But Perry ran out of time and could not inflict any damage on Luque as the round closed.

For five rounds, Valentina Shevchenko took Liz Carmouche from pole-to-pole and dominated her on the feet with her striking. But the overall fight was not a great performance by the champion who initially looked cautious and took her time to engage. Valentina tied up to the most wins in her division as she out pointed Carmouche for the entire 25 minutes.Carmouche barely landed any significant strikes on Shevchenko and for the most part was happy to play defense on the outside to avoid taking any damage. In the third round, Shevchenko pushed forward with a quick combo and put Carmouche down on the ground. The momentum was in the favour of Shevchenko and she began to open up with her offense in the final round. With less than a minute remaining Shevchenko uncorked a beautiful spinning back fist that stunned Carmouche. The final round played out the same way with Shevchenko pressing forward, mixing up combos and take downs. With this victory, Shevchenko continues her reign of terror at 125 pounds.
