UFC Fight Night is stacked with some huge clashes. The former UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos and three-time Kyrgyzstan Muay Thai champion Rafael Fiziev are set to headline the show, while, Caio Borralho and Armen Petrosyan will collide in the co-main event at UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday, July 9.
Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Fiziev
Rafael Dos Anjos with the record 31-13 has had a rejuvenated run after dropping back down to lightweight and recovering from 15 years of wear and tear. Rafael Dos Anjos has racked up decisive wins except judge Chris Lee’s bizarre scorecard against Paul Felder and another against Renato Moicano.
A win against the violent Fiziev would do wonders for Rafael Dos Anjos’ title campaign. He has fought fellow world champions Khabib Nurmagomedov, Kamaru Usman, Robbie Lawler, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis and Benson Henderson. Apart from the championship clause, one can have the names like Nate Diaz, Colby Covington, Leon Edwards, Tony Ferguson and Donald Cerrone (twice).
Meanwhile, Rafael Fiziev (11-1) is stepping up for what could be the biggest challenge of his life. Odds are seemingly in favor of the fighter. Fiziev has cashed check after check following his UFC debut against Alex White. The heavy hitter has notched performance bonuses against Brad Riddell, courtesy of a spinning wheel kick knockout and Moicano. Fight of the Night honors against Bobby Green and Marc Diakiese proved that Fiziev does not need a spectacular finish to deliver a spectacular fight.
Caio Borralho vs Armen Petrosyan
In the co-main event, Brazil’s Caio Borralho is set to go head to head with Armen Petrosyan of Armenia, with both men looking to remain unbeaten in the Octagon. The fighters have been impressive with the pre-UFC run, holding just one loss each in their careers.
‘The Natural is a two-fight Contender Series veteran. Dana White was not impressed with the initial decision win but he followed that up with a dominant Round 1 TKO victory in his second try.
Meanwhile, Petrosyan needed just one DWCS fight to punch his ticket to the big leagues. He displayed some brilliant striking offenses, knocking out his opponent with a head kick late in the first frame.
Their runs on DWCS give an insight into both fighters’ style. Borralho is more of a grappler but has big power and a huge reach, allowing him to be effective in the striking portions of a fight. While, Petrosyan is more of a true striker, with all seven of his pre-UFC wins coming via knockout. While the fight went to a decision, he out-struck Gregory “Robocop” Rodrigues more than two-to-one in his UFC debut as well.
