In what has turned out to a baffling turn of events, UFC flyweight Alex Perez who was given time to cut off the extra weight, instead ended up putting on even more weight during the prescribed time limit. In the end, Perez weighed in at a 127 pounds, a pound heavier than the weight limit.

Alex Perez is a newcomer in the UFC and has a MMA record of 19-4 and is currently 1-0 in the UFC. He is a submission and grappling wizard who became a viral sensation in the world of MMA, when he defeated Carls John de Tomas in his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 123 via submission in the second round due to a rare anaconda choke. He is currently riding high on a six fight win streak. He also has some notable submission victories over fighters such as Kevin Gray, Andrew, Natividad, etc. The young American has gained fame for often submitting his opponents via rare submission techniques such as the Anaconda choke, Brabo choke, etc. He is a relatively untested prospect. However, he looked really impressive in his victory over de Tomas on his UFC debut.

UFC on Fox 28 is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Amway Centre in Orlando, Florida. In the main-event, #4 ranked Josh Emmett is scheduled to face #8 ranked Jeremy Stephens in a Featherweight bout.

Perez has been a bantamweight previously in his career and was supposed to make the flyweight limit for his fight against Eric Shelton. He initially came in just half a pound over the legally allowed weight limit for flyweight and was thus given around forty minutes to drop the extra weight. However, in what became a rather bizzare situation, the American after forty minutes stepped on the weighing scale half a pound heavier instead of being lighter.

Perez’s weight-cut situation is a great debacle. It’s truly confusing how he managed to put on even more weight. However, he has already been made to pay the price for it as he will now be shelling out 20% of his purse to his opponent as a fine.
