After Francis Ngannou came up short against Derrick Lewis at UFC 226 in what proved to be one of the most lackluster fights in the UFC, Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White blamed “The Predator’s” out of control ego as the cause of his poor performance. During the UFC 226 post-fight press conference Dana White had said that Ngannou “let his ego ran away with him” after a rapid rise where White thought “he was going to be the next guy.”
Appearing on the Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Ngannou said:
“I will agree I have an ego. You have to have that ego as a fighter because that is when you think you are better than the other one. You sit there and believe that, that is the ego,” explained Francis. “But not an ego to hurt anyone around you. Yes, I have an ego, I know that. But not to hurt people.”
Ngannou also mentioned that he wants to fight by the end of the year and has named Junior Dos Santos has the possible opponent he would like to face.
“I have no injuries,” Ngannou said. “This year I want to fight. Who I want to fight, exactly? I was supposed to fight Junior for almost a year, 10 months ago. He just came back. Great win. So, maybe that one.”
Also, Junior Dos Santos mentioned on the show that he is open to fighting Francis Ngannou.
