The antics of Conor McGregor are still a talking point in the MMA community. The latest fighter to talk out about the issue is Bellator Heavyweight and former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
If you missed out on the whole thing, McGregor was arrested for attacking the UFC bus during the UFC Brooklyn weekend. His actions also resulted in multiple fight cancellations and injuries.
Mir slammed McGregor for the same in his recent interview with FanSided. The 38-year-old said that McGregor erased all the hard work put in by MMA Legends.
“Seeing Conor do that, on a personal level it bugs me. Because I’m like, dammit, the guys like me Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Matt Hughes, we fought for years to not be considered a thug. And now you are going to drag us back because you are the most famous guy in our sport. you are the richest guy, the most notable character. And they are going to be like, ‘Look, there they are, that’s him.’ All people do it, you will judge us by our most notable face. ” Mir Said.
A bad example for young guys
Mir also raised his concerns about young and upcoming fighters trying to follow in the footsteps of McGregor.
“The problem is we have all these young guys and women watching him. Like anything in life, you sit there and go ‘How did that guy get those shoes? Well, I’m doing this. But how did I get those shoes? Well, you have to follow this.’ We’re a pack mentality. So with Conor being the most famous face and you give him a slap on the wrist, how do you deter other guys going down this path? ” he added.
Mir is currently set to make his return to the cage after a two-year absence and will fight Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator 198 on April 28, 2018.
