While Nunes and Pennington are in Calgary to support their partners Nina Ansaroff and Tecia Torres respectively for their fights, Pennington received a callout. None other than the former UFC women’s featherweight champion and #5 ranked bantamweight ‘The Iron Lady’ Germaine de Randamie who wishes to make a comeback. (via Twitter):

For Pennington who stands at #4 in the rankings, a former champ and a #5 ranked opponent seems to be making sense on paper. However, champ Nunes thinks differently. (via Twitter):

Nunes believes Pennington deserves a ‘reliable’ opponent. De Randamie (7-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) hasn’t competed inside the octagon after winning the inaugural featherweight title defeating former bantamweight champion Holly Holm at UFC 208 back in February 2017.

De Randamie was slated to take on current champ Cris Cyborg, however she rejected the fight due to Cyborg’s past of drug usage. She was therefore stripped off the title in June 2017.

De Randamie then returned back to the bantamweight division. She was scheduled to fight veteran Marion Reneau in September that year, but had to pull out of the fight due to an injury. An another fight with Ketlen Vieira was announced for February 2018 but De Randamie pulled out again due to a hand injury.
