Surviving in the ruthless sport of MMA for more than two decades is no child’s play. However, for former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski, its not enough either.

In a career that has stretched through the better half of his whole life, Arlovski has competed for the biggest promotions, fought the biggest names the sport had to offer in some memorable contests and even held the elusive UFC Heavyweight gold. Now as Arlovski overlooks his 40’s ahead of him, he still believes he can keep up for four or five years.

“Best-case scenario, (I want to keep doing this for) maybe four, five more years,” Arlovski told MMA Junkie during a recent visit to American Top Team. “We’ll see. I still have, like, at age 40, I’m training more than I used to train when I was 25. Every morning, when I wake up in camp, I remember what I want. I want to be champion of the world again.

“I got a few losses right now, I think it’s like 50-50, but fact is I lost a couple of fights and I’m just in the beginning of my way again.”

As far as his fighting days are concerned, one can surely argue that “The Pitbull” has seen better days. Arlovski was on a five fight losing streak, the longest of his career, from January 2016 to June 2017. However, he did succeed in breaking the streak and racked up wins against Junior Albini and Stefan Struve. But then right after he fell short against Tai Tuivasa and Shamil Abdurakhimov. His last outing at UFC 232 last December was originally a split decision loss for him. However, due to his opponent Walt Harris failing a drug test, the decision was turned to a no-contest.

Irrespective of the outcome, Arlovski is happy to be still competing inside the Octagon. He never fails to show his gratitude towards his wife and coaches who have supported him in doing what he loves.

“I just still have some stuff to do and I feel like I still have fire in my eyes I still have energy,” Arlovski said. “My body feels good, so why not?”

UFC on ESPN 3 takes place April 27 at BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. Arlovski is set to go up against Augusto Sakai.
