The story reported that on March 30, 2024, at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jones faced a surprise drug test administered by anti-doping officers from Drug-Free Sport International. What followed was a sequence of events that would rock the MMA world.
The Allegations On Jon Jones
According to the drug-testing officer, Crystal Martinez, Jones became irate during the sample collection process. His anger escalated, leading to shocking behavior. Martinez alleges that Jones assaulted her and threatened her life. He reportedly snatched her phone, leaned in close, and uttered chilling words: “Why do you f****** people come so early? Do you know what happens to people who come to my house? They end up dead.”
The Video Evidence
Jon Jones, however, offers a different perspective. In a lengthy Instagram statement, he acknowledges being frustrated with the “unprofessionalism” of the anti-doping agents. Yet, he insists that their encounter ended “friendly and amicably, nothing threatening at all.” To support his claim, Jones shared surveillance footage showing him exchanging a “high five and a hug” with Martinez and her colleague, Jerome Romero, as they left his property.
Martinez maintains that Jon Jones was unhappy during the urine collection process. When he couldn’t provide a sample, she suggested a blood test—an idea that seemed to further enrage him. She suspected he might have been intoxicated. Jones eventually produced a urine sample after Romero’s departure, but Martinez describes Romero’s demeanor as frightened and pale upon his return.
The Assault and the Phone Recording
The situation escalated when Jones allegedly assaulted Martinez and recorded a video on her phone. The video captures Jones saying, “Here’s f***** Jerome and his girlfriend in my garage.” It was around this moment that he leaned in and issued the ominous threat about early visitors meeting a grim fate. Martinez feared for her safety, unable to retrieve her phone from Jones.
Martinez wanted to press charges against Jones, even as her supervisor discouraged it, awaiting the UFC’s response. Jones now faces legal consequences. He has been charged with assault and interfering with communications. The once-undefeated champion, known for his dominance in the Octagon, stands accused of actions that defy his fighting legacy.
