Having a bad day? Well, think about this, defeating the pound-for-pound greatest fighter on the planet and breaking his streak of consecutive 11 title defenses to become a champion, and then losing that belt while travelling to another country! That’s exactly what happened with UFC flyweight champ Henry ‘The Messenger’ Cejudo.
Cejudo visited Moscow as a guest to enjoy Fight Night 136 last weekend. However his luggage was lost on his way to Moscow. In an uncanny resemblance, Cejudo also lost his Olympic Gold medal in the California wildfire last year where he fortunately escaped.
“Unfortunately, my belt is in my luggage,” Cejudo told reporters, including MMAjunkie, before adding with a laugh. “So now, on top of my gold medal, now it’s my belt. I don’t know what it is about gold. I can’t keep it.”
Cejudo however is positive about the entire situation. Cejudo is confident that the authorities will find his luggage however won’t have a hard time getting over it if they don’t. Cejudo does not believe his heroics are defined just on the basis of a ‘Material’.
“Let’s be honest, material comes and goes,” Cejudo said. “It’s the memories, it’s the legacy that comes with being a champion. I’m going to get a gold medal back. I’m going to get a belt back. But it’s the memories that come with that that makes it special.”
