In Dana White’s quest to find a main event worthy for a card as iconic as UFC 230, we unfortunately lost a fight which was probably the ‘people’s main event’ as #3 ranked lightweight Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier pulled out of his fight against a returning #8 ranked Nate Diaz.

This also marks the first time ever that Poirier has pulled out of a fight in his career of 30 fights across 10 years. The fight faced many hurdles along it’s way. The fight was rumoured to be a title fight for the inaugural 165 pound division which fighters have been demanding since quite a while. However UFC president Dana White didn’t agree. The back and forth kept going on however Poirier’s injury was the final nail on the coffin.

Poirier agreed as well that the hip injury affected his range of motion and internal rotation upto a level that he couldn’t put in the training sessions that he would ideally desire.

Poirier however said it would be a quick turnaround and he would like to get back into action as soon as before 2019. Poirier has been relatively active as well with his last three fights bring main events.
