UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall finds himself in a curious situation. The original plan was for him to defend his interim title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 304, but “Bon Gamin” allegedly turned down the fight due to ongoing movie obligations. Aspinall isn’t sure whether Gane is intentionally avoiding him, but he remains diplomatic about the situation.
In an interview with The Mac Life, Aspinall shared his thoughts on the matter. He acknowledged that Gane might have other aspirations beyond MMA. Perhaps the French fighter dreams of becoming the next Arnold Schwarzenegger, trading the octagon for the silver screen. Aspinall doesn’t hold any grudges, recognizing that everyone has their path to follow.

Tom Aspinall’s Rematch with Curtis Blaydes
Instead of facing Gane, Tom Aspinall will defend his interim title in a rematch against Curtis Blaydes. The two heavyweights will collide in the co-main event at UFC 304 on July 27 at Co-op Live in Manchester, England. Aspinall respects Gane’s choices and wishes him luck in his ‘acting’.
“Maybe a bit, I don’t know,” Aspinall told The MacLife. “It’s difficult to say like, if he’s getting loads – I don’t know what his aspirations are. He might really want to be an actor. That might be his thing. So he’s thinking, ‘F*ck this MMA stuff. I’m going to go and be the French Arnold Schwarzenegger here. I’m going to crack on with that.’ Fair play to Ciryl, though. Good luck to him. I’ve got nothing against Ciryl.”
Ciryl Gane, on the other hand, denies any ducking accusations. Aspinall claimed that Gane’s refusal allowed him to fight Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. Whether it’s a case of strategic maneuvering or genuine career priorities, only Gane knows. Regardless, the MMA world eagerly awaits the next chapter in this intriguing heavyweight saga.
Tom Aspinall’s perspective is refreshingly level-headed. He acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding Gane’s intentions and focuses on his own journey. Whether Gane is ducking him or not, the octagon will eventually reveal the truth. Until then, fans can speculate, but both fighters continue their respective paths—one in the cage, the other perhaps on the big screen.
