UFC : Israel doesnt think his next opponent is a ‘striker’

In the ‘Road to Octagon’ video Italian UFC fighter Marvin Vettori was described as a striker, which has amused former GLORY Kickboxing star and newly signed UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya.

Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya faces Marvin Vettori at UFC on Fox 29 and is apparently entirely unconcerned by his opponent’s striking.

“I know his ego. He’ll want to try and bang with me,” Adesanya said. “But then, I’ll give it one minute. Within one minute, he’ll start shooting – guaranteed.”

On concerns with grappling

Even though Israel is primarily a kickboxer, he is insistent that he is not concerned with Marvin Vettori’s grappling. “I’ll keep the same energy,” Adesanya said. “I’m still finding someone to keep me on the ground, and they can see what it’s about. The last guy that tried to take me down, and he couldn’t even keep me down.”

Last performance

Israel Adesanya impressed spectators with his performance in his UFC debut against Rob Wilkinson in Perth, Australia at UFC 221 in February. He finished Rob Wilkinson with a flurry of strikes in the very first round and defended for the most part attempts to take him to the ground. After a cheeky post fight speech, Israel put the UFC Middleweight division on notice saying there’s a new dog in the yard.

On his striking

My timing is everything,” Adesanya said. “And just the accuracy, and the way I hit. People say, ‘Look at him.’ I’m all right. I’ve packed some muscle on me. But you don’t need power. My baby sister, she has power.

“Anyone has power. But it’s about timing and accuracy. That’s how you starch a guy. That’s how you make a guy question his whole life and then start shooting for the hills.”

Future Plans

Israel was not picky when asked about his future matchups after his UFC debut.“I’ll fight anyone, anyone in the world,I’ve never really had my fights cherry-picked. A lot of these guys will get into the UFC or even combat sports, like boxing or kickboxing, they get their fights cherry-picked. Not me. All my fights were fighting the best people from different parts of the planet. Now I’m in the UFC, people are like, ‘Feed him some cans first or get him a top 10.’ I don’t really care. Either one is a fight for me. Whomever I fight, my pay check is still the same. And I’m getting bonuses in all the rest of my fights.”
