The rumours of a potential fight between Ronaldo Souza and David Branch have been making rounds for quite some time now. However, Branch recently revealed on Twitter that Souza has declined the fight and now, Souza’s manager has come out with an explanation.
Gilberto Faria, who manages Souza noted that Souza wants to fight someone higher in the rankings.
“Dave Branch was offered to us twice in 18 months. and ‘Jacare’ agreed both times, but he jumped ship. Jacare’ wants to fight someone ranked higher in the middleweight division, like rematches with Yoel Romero or Kelvin Gastelum, or a fight with Chris Weidman. It doesn’t make sense to fight Dave Branch now. Jacare’ is not in a hurry, he will sit down like everyone else does and wait for a bigger fight. ‘Jacare’ has always fought opponents ranked lower than him, and it’s time to face someone ahead of him,” he said to MMA Fighting.
Souza’s last fight came against Kelvin Gastelum which he lost. He will be looking to bounce back and get into the Middleweight title picture through his next match irrespective of the opponent that UFC gives him.
