Back in late May, the netizens of India, along with the country’s mixed martial arts fanbase, went into a frenzy after the official reveal of “BJP Store” by none other than the current UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka.

“BJP going international” posts stormed Twitter, as social media users were amused and thrilled by the MMA fighter, who posted a link on his tweet to “BJP Store”, and fans quickly spread the message that Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling political party of the country has gone global.

Soon, several Twitter users shared Prochazka’s tweet, from calling it “Czech Republic BJP headquarter!” to edited photos of the fighter holding the saffron flag, as well as GIFs of Indian PM Narendra Modi and HM Amit Shah in the comments.

BJP is Prochazka’s nickname, as well as the name of his store
Aside from the banters and memes, there is actually no link between Bharatiya Janata Party and Jiri Prochazka. A namesake of the ruling party of India, BJP Store in reality is a clothing, sports equipment and health foods store launched by Prochazka, commemorating his nickname, which he recently changed from “Denisa” to “BJP”, an abbreviation of “Bomby Jak Píča”, which translates to “Bombs As F*ck” in English.
“That’s me. Bomby jak píča in Czech language,” The fighter also cleared the air about his new nickname in an interview, “That’s my idea…when I started with martial arts I did some training for the special power of punches. That’s Bomby jak píča training, and after many years, I keep the training every Sunday. That is my special BJP training…Every Sunday is my BJP training. To fight a target and destroy guys.”
Two weeks after launching his store, Prochazka clinched the UFC Light Heavyweight title after defeating former champion Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 275, which took place in Singapore on 12th June.
