Joanna Jedrzejczyk lost out her rematch for the UFC Women’s Strawweight championship against Rose Namajunas at UFC 223 last month. Despite losing to Namajunas on two separate occasions, Joanna is in no mood to give up her title hopes.
As Joanna prepares to mark a quick turn around by fighting Tecia Torres at UFC Calgary, she is confident of getting a title shot soon.
“I am very happy to fight Tecia. The good thing is she fought Jessica Andrade in her last fight, she lost that fight. But (sic) Jessica Andrade is going to be the challenger for Rose Namajunas. So I am very happy to face Tecia Torres and get the title shot after this fight. That’s the plan. I know more than you guys and I am very happy to have this fight. Tecia Torres is a real warrior so I am very happy to face her. She was training at American Top Team for a long time, she left a year ago. I think it’s good and it will be a very interesting fight,” she said during the recent interview on The MMA Hour (via MMA Mania).
The discussion with UFC Matchmakers
Joanna was asked whether or not she discussed the prospect of fighting for the title with UFC matchmakers and she had the following to say.
“I believe I am going to get title shot after this fight. But I said I could have a lot of fights before I get title shot, I went through this in 2014 and 2015. I want this belt and I will get it back, mark my words,” she added.
Joanna is currently 14-2 in her career with her only defeats coming up against Rose Namajunas. Tecia, meanwhile, is 10-2 is in her career and is coming off a defeat against Jessica Andrade.
