Former WWE champion CM Punk will make his return to the UFC octagon at UFC 225. After suffering a first-round defeat against Mickey Gall in his UFC debut, Punk will be returning to action against Mike Jackson at the UFC 225 pay-per-view which will be held in his hometown.
Interestingly, CM Punk will be getting a pay-per-view card spot ahead of some veteran UFC stars including Alistair Overeem.
Not many people are happy about this move from the UFC and Joe Rogan pointed out the same during the latest episode of his podcast. Rogan said that CM Punk should be fighting in the Amateur circuit and not the pay-per-view card.
“It shouldn’t even be on the ‘Tuesday Night Contender’ show. It should be in some amateur event somewhere. That’s really what they are. They’re guys learning how to compete. They’re in the first fight on the pay-per-view. That’s f–king crazy,” Rogan said. (via MMA Nytt)
The debut against Mickey Gall
Rogan also went on to talk about the debut of CM Punk against Mickey Gall and slammed the matchmaking.
“What was really weird watching him walk to the cage was he was approaching it like a pro wrestling fight. Cause he had done so many of these pro wrestling matches that he was walking to the cage with pro wrestling mannerisms and everything and I was watching this and I did like an internal head shake. Like oh f–k. It was a terrible idea. Whoever on his side said that he could fight Mickey Gall, you’re out of your f–king mind. Watch that kid fight once. That kid is very good on the ground. Very good. Stand up’s not bad either. He’s tough as s–t and he’s smart. He’s clever and he’s mean. He’s a mean f–ker,” he added.
UFC 225 will be headlined by the Middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. The Interim Welterweight championship fight between Rafael Dos Anjos and Colby Covington will serve as the co-main event.
