Fight Night 138 in Moncton, Canada featured a light heavyweight barn burner as former title challenger and #2 ranked Volkan ‘No Time’ Ozdemir took on #10 ranked Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith.
The bout promised a finish to be served the day the matchup was materialized. A blink of an eye, and one of them would lie on the canvas. However the fight had an unexpected result as Smith got the job done courtesy of a third round submission. Nevertheless, entertainment was served.
Ozdemir controlled the first two rounds via strikes and leg kicks. Smith then found his rhythm in the third round. The MMA community was highly impressed by the fight however one man gave a relatively cold reaction, none other than former light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.
Jones was asked his opinion on the fight on Twitter to which Jones brushed off saying it was ‘OK’. (via Twitter):

In an interview with Mike Bohn of MMAjunkie, Smith addressed the tweet claiming Jones should focus on Alexander Gustafsson first. (via Twitter):

Jones will make his much anticipated return at UFC 232 in December in a rematch against Alexander Gustafsson. The rumours of current double champ Cormier to be relinquished of his title and the winner of the Jones and Gustafsson fight to be crowned as the undisputed champ are floating around.
If Jones ends up becoming the champ again, Smith can be a potential opponent somewhere down the line.
