Former UFC featherweight champion José Aldo took on a dangerous Jeremy Stephens in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 30 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Just when the MMA community thought he was done, he’s back! And How! The former champ faced some adversity first weathering Stephens’ storm, however hit him with a liver punch which folded Stephens. Aldo topped off with punches to get a much needed victory finishing Stephens who hasn’t been finished since almost a decade.
“So that’s all the work that we’re going to doing for now,” Aldo (27-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) told reporters through a translator.
Aldo was 1-3 coming in his last 4 fights with two consecutive third round finishes from champ Max Holloway. Aldo who has three fights left on his contract wants to end his contract with a title win.
“I think the performance was good enough to catch the eyes of the matchmakers again, and show that I do belong here.
“I am a top fighter in this division, and I’m ready to get another title shot eventually in this run.”
“A lot of people were looking at me and thinking, ‘Where is he now? Is he the same fighter that he was before?’ But I had my group behind me,” Aldo said. “I was able to keep calm and do the work.”
