UFC: Kamaru Usman admits that he still gets trolled about his ‘30%’ post fight comments

PC: MMA Mania

UFC Welterweight Kamaru Usman is undefeated in the promotion thus far.

Unfortunately for him, however, he has come to be more well known because of his post fight comments following his dominant decision victory over Emil ‘Valhalla’ Meek at UFC Fight Night 124.

Following his decision victory, Usman took the mic and claimed that he still dominated a so-called Viking despite only using 30% of his ability.

Naturally, the comments didn’t go down too well with UFC President Dana White who’s generally not a fan of grinding wrestlers that ride an opponent to a boring decision victory – in his eyes at least.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Usman had this to say about the fallout from that fateful post-fight speech.

To this day, I hear ’30 percent’ for everything. I post me drinking a shake, and they’re like, ‘Is that 30 percent shake in there?’

Dana kind of amplifies everything. Once he took it that way, the fans kind of started taking it that way.

However, how his comments came across is not the message Kamaru intended to convey at all, according to him.

What I meant by my 30 percent that people took the wrong way, I meant I had a lot of things going on – things that lesser fighters would have pulled out for.

My leg, my calf was damaged really bad. I couldn’t really move the way I want. That’s a big part of my game. But I didn’t want to pull out of the fight because the guy (Meek) had made such a big fuss and FOX was really kind of pushing him, pushing this guy as the next big thing.

But I knew I could beat that guy at even at 10, 20 percent. So I decided to stick out the fight, and the most important thing is to win, and once I stated that, people took it the wrong way.

Do you believe Kamaru Usman when he says his comments after the Emil Meek fight were misconstrued?
