Former interim title challenger and perrenial lightweight contender Kevin ‘The MoTown Phenom’ Lee is moving back to lightweight.

As he gets back into the lightweight mix, Lee weighed in on the single most anticipated fight at lightweight, a bout between arch rivals former interim champ Tony Ferguson and champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Lee, who fought for the interim title against Ferguson, has always been an advocate of Ferguson being the one to dethrone Khabib. However after watching Nurmagomedov defend the title against another interim champ Dustin Poirier, Lee now has a different outlook.

“I got to be honest: If you asked me before the Poirier fight, I would have been like Tony (Ferguson) is still like a 90 percent chance of winning,” Lee told MMA Junkie. “After seeing what Khabib did to Poirier, I think it’s going to be very hard for Tony to beat him.”

Lee admitted that Nurmagomedov’s performance was so good that it impressed a tough critique like him.

“I’m not going to lie: It was very, very impressive, and the people know I don’t get impressed very easily, especially with a guy like Khabib, but that one is very impressive,” Lee said.

Lee claimed that Nurmagomedov’s performance inspired him to step his game up and further make a move down to lightweight. Lee in his last fight, made a move up to welterweight to take on Rafael Dos Anjos but suffered a fourth round submission loss. Since then Lee has been looking for a fresh outlook training under renowned coaches like James Crouch and Justin Gaethje’s coach Trevor Whittman before eventually settling with wizard Firas Zahabi in Montreal, Canada.

Lee is expected to take on highly regarded undefeated contender Gregor ‘The Gift’ Gillespie at UFC 244 in Madison Square Garden on November 2.
