The return of Nate Diaz is one of the major talking points in the MMA world right now. While nothing is confirmed as of now, rumours suggest that Nate could return in August.
A list of potential opponents is currently lined up for the returning Nate and Kevin Lee is interested in adding his name to this list as well. Lee is coming off a huge win against Edson Barboza and wants to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 227.
“I’m turning my focus to Nate. I think that Nate fight is out there to be had. He’s already run away from me once. Now they’ve got August 4 coming up that he’s looking to get on,” Lee said while appearing on the Sirius XM’s ‘MMA Tonight’. (Quotes via MMA Nytt)
Khabib fight is the right one to make
Later, Lee also went on to reveal the reasons why he decided to shift his focus to Nate Diaz while further adding that he deserves a shot at current Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“I’m going to do a little bit of travelling, see the world a bit myself and kind of expand some more of that life to experience, which is just going to make me a better fighter. Coming back? I don’t know. I think the Khabib fight is the right one to make, but the Nate one is out there to be had. I know Dustin [Poirier] and Alvarez, they’re getting in it again, as they rightfully should. But we’ll how this thing shakes out. I’m going to turn my focus to Nate,” he added.
The 25-year-old Lee is 17-3 in his career and had suffered a defeat to Tony Ferguson prior to his win against Edson Barboza. A rematch with Ferguson is however out of the question this year as Ferguson is expected to sit out due to injury.
