UFC crowned a new lightweight champion at UFC 223 in the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov after Tony Ferguson pulled out with a knee injury in an eventful week which saw a number of contenders including featherweight champion Max Holloway being considered for replacement and the former Lightweight chmapion Conor Mcgregor turning up to attack Khabib in his bus with a dolly.

After Khabib defeated Al Iaquinta for the Lightweight title, everyone has been speculating about the next challenger for the belt. Stories have ranged from facing Conor Mcgregor in Russia to a 4 man Lightweight tournament featuring Georges St. Pierre, Conor Mcgregor and Nate Diaz. With Khabib out for the Ramadan festival and expected to return in late 2018, it is still not clear who is the next contender to face the Dagestani Eagle in his return to the octagon.

Manager speaks

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdel Aziz believes ‘the fight to make’ is against Georges St. Pierre at 155 pounds.”Khabib wants to fight for legacy and not for a soap opera drama show, and we think Conor doesn’t deserve this opportunity. The guy hasn’t fought in two years. Why does he deserve to fight for the title? He should get his a** back in the line and work his way up.”

Abdel Aziz also clarified that they are still open to fighting Conor for more personal reasons to ‘make him pay for what he did in Brooklyn’. ” That being said, UFC should be talking to GSP, not Conor”, he added.
