UFC lightweight Jordan Leavitt kept his winning streak intact after he knocked out Matt Wiman at UFC Vegas 16 main card.
Jordan Leavitt has been with the UFC for less than six months. He earned a UFC contract after defeating Jose Flores via arm-triangle choke submission in the first round at Dana White Contender Series last August.
In his most recent fight that took place last weekend at the Apex, he fought UFC veteran Matt Wiman. It took Leavitt about 22-seconds to knock him out. Jordan Leavitt picked up Wiman and slammed him with the full force of his body, following which Wiman’s head landed flat on the canvas. He laid flat and the referee immediately stepped in to stop the fight.
Jordan Leavitt wants Slam banned
The slam KO last weekend earned Jordan Leavitt a $50,000 bonus, but the 25-year old Las Vegas native wants slam banned from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
“I 100 percent agree that the sport would be a much safer, artful thing if slams like that weren’t allowed. But when you’re out there and you’re in that cage you have to decide, ‘Am I going to pay rent tonight, or do I have to downgrade my house and put my family in an unstable position?’ I think any person would do what I did in that situation,” Leavitt told TMZ Sports.
“But I think slams are ugly and I think they’re dangerous. And even though I didn’t slam him on the back of the head, there are dozens of fights where they do get slammed on the back of the head. And if it lands that way, unless you’re in a submission, I don’t think it’s warranted. I would prefer to have won in any other way. I’m happy, it’s a highlight, and it’s good for my career and notoriety, but that’s not the way I wanted it to be.”
Jordan Leavitt is so far undefeated in his MMA career and has compiled an MMA record of 8-0-0. Prior to joining UFC, he fought at LFA and other regional promotion.
