Today’s UFC London event brought the Octagon back to England, and four participants ended up receiving performance bonuses.
A major welterweight bout between former champion Leon Edwards and up-and-coming opponent Sean Brady was the main event on the fight card. For Brady, the fight turned out to be a coming out celebration. The American used his powerful grappling abilities to smother and control the former welterweight champion, controlling Edwards for the whole of the bout. Sean Brady quickly secured a fight-ending guillotine choke early in round four to complete the stunning victory after dominating and beating “Rocky” on the ground for fifteen minutes. The victory puts the Philadelphia native in position to face a top contender the next time around.
Jan Blachowicz and Carlos Ulberg’s light heavyweight fight was the co-headliner of today’s UFC London event. The eagerly awaited scrap turned into a fierce back-and-forth battle. In the first round, Blachowicz seemed to defeat Ulberg, but in the second round, “Black Jag” managed to land a higher number of strikes. The fight seemed to be over after ten minutes of fighting. Both men prevailed in the last round, but Ulberg was given the victory by all three judges following a close five minutes.
At the post-fight news conference after tonight’s bout, UFC executives declared that four combatants will receive performance bonuses.
