Former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler (18-4 MMA, 15-4 BMMA) and former Bellator and UFC lightweight champion Eddie ‘The Underground King’ Alvarez (29-6 MMA, 4-3 UFC) are now both free agents who recently completed their contracts competing under the Bellator and UFC banner respectively.
With rumours of Eddie Alvarez finishing his career in his earlier organization of Bellator, former opponent Chandler would like to welcome Alvarez with a trilogy if they both end up in the same organization be it UFC or Bellator.
Chandler and Alvarez are known for their two barn burners at Bellator 58 in November 2011 and Bellator 106 in November 2013. In their first bout, Chandler defeated Alvarez via fourth round submission. In their second bout, Alvarez edged Chandler via a razor thin split decision.
“There’s not a guy that I respect in this sport more than Eddie Alvarez,” Chandler said. “When you share 50 minutes inside a cage – I’ve got a scar on my lip that he gave me, I’ve got another scar on my eyebrow that he gave me. I could look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘That’s from that guy, that’s from that guy.’ Eddie put it on me here and there. Being 1-1, me finishing him the first fight, him beating me in the second fight; Eddie’s just a warrior. He’s been Bellator champion, he’s been UFC champion. He’s been champion in every major organization in the entire world.”
