Since UFC 226 is happening during the international fight week, the fight card for the event was always going to be stacked. It initially boasted two title fights but the curse of the fight week struck and the UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was pulled off the card after allegedly suffering a concussion. It seems the curse has struck again as UFC lightweight Michael “The Maverick” Chiesa has missed weight for his fight with former lightweight champion Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis.

On Friday when the weigh-ins began, fans were anxiously hoping for everyone to make weight. As Chiesa stepped on the scale, he weighed in 1.5 pounds heavier at 157.5 pounds. While the fight is still on, Chiesa did make a startling claim that this will be his last fight at lightweight.

As soon as Chiesa stepped off the scale, he told the room filled with reporters, “That’s it, This will be my last fight at 155.”

It should be noted that even though Chiesa is a big lightweight but he still has never had much troubles making weight, he has also never missed weight before. Thus, him coming in 1.5 pounds overweight came as a shock to many fans.
