CM Punk is set to return to the cage at UFC 225 on July 9 after his forgettable debut inside the Octagon. In his first outing, Punk had lost out to Mickey Gall in the first round and now, he has a date with Mike Jackson, who also has a defeat to Mickey Gall on his resume.

It will be a big step up for Jackson in the UFC and he is ready to make good use of the opportunity. In his last fight, Punk was paid nearly half a million while his opponent Gall was paid a lesser amount of $30,000. Jackson is not ready to take such a huge pay difference and he revealed the same during an interview with BJ Penn.com.
“I mean, [Punk] brought in half a mil his first fight, I would assume he’s gonna do the same for this one. But for me, obviously, I don’t want to fight for like chump change. I made some quite good money doing what I did [in the past. I did like some bare-knuckle fighting a few years back, I got paid very well for that. This is gonna be a large payday for me, and I understand what it is,” Jackson said. (quotes via MMA Mania)
Looking forward to the opportunity
Jackson’s only fight in the UFC came against Gall and the showdown with Punk will provide him with a huge opportunity. If he manages to get a win, he would essentially make it hard for the former WWE champion to return to the cage. At the same time, it would offer Jackson a bigger deal the next time he fights in the UFC.
He is completely aware of the fact and mentioned the same as well.
“Again, I’m a slow cooker. And so I’m looking forward to what this opportunity presents following the fight. That’s what’s most important for me,” he added.
