UFC: Nate Diaz reveals reason why he chose Anthony Pettis as his next opponent

UFC 241 this weekend at Honda Center in Anaheim, California, will feature a probable people’s main event as fan favorite Nate Diaz  (19-11 MMA, 14-9 UFC) will make his much anticipated return after three years to take former lightweight champ Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis (22-8 MMA, 9-7 UFC) at welterweight.

Diaz was on the sidelines waiting for a big money fight, a fight that would match his criteria for a comeback. Diaz, known for trash talk and his game attitude, however had to resort to a blue collar man like Pettis. Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Diaz revealed as to why he chose Pettis as an opponent.

“I was like, ‘All right, you know what, Pettis is knocking out Thompson and doing all this cool (expletive) when he fights,’ and I’m like, ‘Man, that’s an eligible opponent, and I dig that,’” Diaz told ESPN in a sit-down interview. “I don’t need to be signing up for fights just because I want to punch someone in the face. That’s not cool. I want a fight that’s going to motivate me to fight.”

“Good fighters and good fights.”

Diaz in his own style, also mocked lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov and welterweight champ Kamaru Usman, claiming people are more interested in watching his and Pettis’ style of fights more.

“I feel like I’m just better and cooler than those guys; what the hell would I want to fight them for?” Diaz asked. “Pettis is cooler than both of them, fight-wise, you know what I’m saying?
