Coronavirus has bought the world to a standstill with countries like Itlay putting the entire nation on lockdown. This virus has also affected the sporting world with major leagues like NBA and Seria A canceling their entire season. The UFC fans are worried that this may lead to the cancellation of the UFC 249 mega-fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
UFC president Dana White made a public service announcement earlier today that it will go ahead with its events. UFC released a press conference stating that Ngannou vs Rozenstruik and Harris vs Overeem have been moved from their original venue to Apex facility in Las Vegas.
However, Dana White hasn’t given any updates regarding the upcoming mega-fight between Khabib and Tony. That is to say, Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz is confident about the fight taking place.

“Guys @TeamKhabib vs sunglasses is happening April 18. UFC always finds a way with or without fans this fight is going down people at home need entertainment,” the manager tweeted.
Coronavirus could jeopardize Khabib vs Tony
The fight will take place in Brooklyn, New York. NYC has been hit hard because of coronavirus and there have been nearly 100 confirmed cases with 42 testing positive in the last 24 hours.
Mayor Bill DeBlasio confirmed that the number of positive cases could rise up to 1000 in the coming weeks. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo banned gatherings of 500 or more people across the state “for the foreseeable future.”
This will affect large sporting venues like Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center. UFC 249 is supposed to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Fans have been longing to see Khabib vs Tony for a long time now. UFC has previously booked the fight four times and all four times have both fighters pulled out. Khabib Nurmagomedov pulled out of fights in 2015 and 2017 because of injuries, while Tony Ferguson also pulled out in 2016 and 2018 for the very same reason.
Tony Ferguson has fought one-time a year since 2017. Last year at UFC 238, he defeated Donald Cerrone via TKO in the second round. Before that, he fought at UFC 229, where he again defeated Anthony Pettis via TKO in the second round. Back in 2016, he defeated Kevin Lee via third-round submission at UFC 216.
On the other hand, Khabib Nurmagomedov is coming off of a third-round submission win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242.
